Hi.
After approximately seven months of musical stagnacy, things have final started moving again. I have one song up online. J. Ivar, my artistic alias.
www.purevolume.com/jivar
So far, I only have one song up. It's kinda folky in the vein of Iron & Wine or Pedro the Lion. I'm actually working on another one right now. It's completely different - synths and other various electronica. I'm hoping to have it completed and up by tomorrow evening.
So, check it out. I hope you enjoy it. Right now, this is just something I did for myself - for the love of music. I just figured I'd share it with you guys. But who knows, maybe I'll reach the levels of international fame like my previous endeavors - Backseat Driver and Dear Victory.

| - Apertura
I just got in from a walk. It's mid-January, shortly after 2am, and 55 degrees.
I walked around my neighborhood - pure suburbia. The kind of place where you get lost if you don't live there because everything looks the same. It's strange how peaceful things are at 1:30 am. In a place where there's usually a lawn mower running or a dog barking - silence. Just the sound of the cool wind after a rain; the streetlamps glistening off the wet pavement.
I walked, recalling many events of childhood. Baseball in this field. Sledding on that hill. Chasing fireflies in this yard. I recalled all the shortcuts. Hop over the fence and cut across the yard and you can be there in 2 minutes tops instead of the 15 minute trek on the sidewalk. I took none of them tonight though. A good 50 minutes taking the long way around, watching my shadow shift from behind me to in front of me as I passed the streetlamps.
Simply enjoyable.
That is all.

So, under Ajay's guidance, I suppose I'll do my year in review... The first line of the first entry of each month.
2005 In Review
January - O coward conscience, how dost thou afflict me!
February - Oy!
March - I will be your accident if you will be my ambulance
April - As I look back on my previous posts, I realize that they have consisted merely of quotes and links for quite some time now.
May - ... I die trying just to keep myself from kissing you
June - Sigh.
July - My calendar no longer reads: Spamalot?
August - This is for anyone who might need a smile right now.
September - The other night I found a delightful suprise upon turning out the light and rolling onto my back.
October - update: bad news folks.
November - Soooooo... I'm ready for home.
December - "I don't mind the weather
So, let's see. Twenty-five per cent of the above listed lines are lyrics. One is from a play. Two are monosyllabic. Only one of those not consisting of quoted material has incorrect capitalization. I suppose it has been a relatively good year. Actually, I don't suppose. I know. This past year has been quite good. The rise (and fall) of a band. A trip to the tropics. My first genuine significant other. The formation of a great group of friends. A semester at college. Yes, among and within some of the pleasant times there were rough patches; but that's to be expected. Though I know January 1, 2006 probably won't feel much different than December 31, 2005, I guess I can say that I'm ready for the new year.

It appears I've been tagged.
So...
1 - I've been told I have a fetish.
2 - I have this thing about honesty, though i sometimes stray from it myself by telling the truth, just not the whole truth.
3 - I am determined not to live in American suburbia as an adult. A European metropolis is my preferred destination.
4 - I haven't written a complete song in seven months.
5 - My name is completely borrowed. My first was my dad's nickname. My middle was a friend of my dad's. My last was a hand-me-down.
6 - I love those few minutes right before it rains - when the grey clouds roll in, the wind picks up, and there's a fresh scent in the air. It manages to be so peaceful and so full of motion at the same time.
So there you have it. I tag Mike, Tamara, Ash, Laine, Rupe, and Marlo.
